Wrap questions and answers.
Everything people actually ask us about wraps, lettering, PPF, pricing, and care, answered the way we’d answer at the counter. Don’t see your question? Send it over and we’ll answer it straight.
How pricing works
How do you price a wrap?
Everything is priced by square footage. The more of the vehicle we cover, the more material and labor it takes. For color changes we have set packages. For anything custom or commercial we work from your budget: tell us what you want to spend and we build a package to fit it.
Can you give me a price over email?
Usually we can get you in the ballpark, but a firm estimate often needs photos or a quick look in person. Vehicles vary more than people expect. Chrome trim, curves, and condition all change the number. Send pictures and we’ll get you close; for the exact figure it’s best to bring it by.
Do you work with a set budget?
Yes, that’s how most commercial and custom jobs go. You give us a budget, we design a package that fits it. People often overspend on full coverage when a well-designed partial gets them what they want.
Color change packages
What packages do you offer?
Two tiers, so there’s a fit for most budgets. Standard, our most popular, covers all exterior painted surfaces including handles and mirrors, with parts removed as needed. Plan on 5 to 7 business days. Premium is the most comprehensive: all exterior painted surfaces including door jambs where needed, all parts removed for a clean, trim-free finish, and a free hydrophobic ceramic coat to seal and protect the wrap. Plan on 7 to 14 business days. Pricing doesn’t include tax or specialty vinyls like color flips and chromes.
If the package price is over my budget, am I out of luck?
No. Come in anyway and we’ll talk through ways to hit your budget. There’s almost always a way to get you a clean result for what you want to spend.
How do I pick a color?
Come by and look through the swatch books, then pick your vinyl. That’s the first step. Vinyl brands don’t use paint codes, so you really do need to see the swatches in person.
Commercial & fleet
How does a commercial or fleet job work?
We work from your budget. Everything’s square footage, so we build a package that fits what you want to spend, then design to it. To get going we’ll ask: do you have a logo, or should we create one? Do you have a website so we can get a feel for your style? What budget range are you thinking? Any other wrapped vehicles we should match? Any design ideas already in mind?
Do you design the graphics, or do I need to bring artwork?
We can design it for you or work from what you’ve got. For a fleet, we design to your budget and can scale coverage up or down to land on the number that works. Once we send a design and you approve it, that sets the price.
How do we start a commercial project?
A quick phone conversation about your ideas and budget, then a design deposit to get the design process going. From there we build the design, you approve, and we schedule the install.
Decals, lettering & partials
Do you do decals and lettering instead of a full wrap?
Yes, and it’s often the smarter spend for a work vehicle. Door lettering, partial coverage, logos: all priced by square footage based on size and quantity. Send pictures of the vehicle and what you’re picturing and we’ll estimate it.
What about stripes or a partial color accent?
We do those too. Send a picture of what you’re after. Some stripe kits use different vinyls that need different install techniques, so we may need to see the material to estimate.
Chrome delete (and a word on chrome wrap)
Do you do chrome delete?
Yes, blacking out or color-changing the chrome trim. There’s so much chrome variation, even on the same model, that it’s best to bring it by so we can see exactly what’s involved. Send photos and we’ll get you a ballpark first.
Can you wrap my whole car in a chrome color?
We don’t recommend chrome wrap. The vinyl is extremely expensive, and it doesn’t hold up well over time. We’d steer you toward another finish.
Paint protection film (PPF)
What does a front-end PPF package cover?
Front bumper, roughly the first 18 inches of the hood, the front of the fenders, and the mirror caps. You can add coverage behind the wheels and along the lower rocker panels.
Should I do full-body PPF?
You can, and some people do, but full coverage gets pricey and for how most people drive it’s usually overkill. We’ll give you an honest read on where protection actually pays off.
What is the warranty on PPF?
Two layers of coverage. Our PPF films carry a 12-year manufacturer warranty against yellowing, bubbling, and cracking, and our installations carry a lifetime workmanship warranty against install defects: bubbling or lifting from application, trapped debris, or seam failure. The workmanship warranty doesn’t cover physical damage, misuse, or work done by another shop.
Materials & quality
What vinyl do you use?
Only premium cast vinyl. It gives a paint-like finish and it’s the only thing that holds up long term, for color change and lettering both.
Why Big Monkey?
We use premium cast vinyls for a paint-like finish that lasts. We remove badges, lights, handles, and whatever else is needed so there’s no unsightly trimming or patching. Our installers are trained and meticulous, so the work meets or beats industry standards. Our work is warrantied against fading, cracking, bubbling, peeling, and lifting. We offer ceramic coating over the vinyl at a discount, which protects it and makes cleaning easy. And we’re family-owned, so you get real time on the details of your project.
Durability, care & warranty
How long will a wrap last?
It comes down to care. Washed and waxed regularly, kept out of the weather, and garaged when possible, a commercial wrap runs 5 to 7 years and a color change typically looks great for 3 to 5, often longer. Left dirty, parked under trees, or in constant direct sun, you might get two. Treat it like paint and it lasts.
What does the warranty cover?
Our work is warrantied against fading, cracking, bubbling, peeling, and lifting. Color-change wraps carry a one-year warranty, and commercial and fleet wraps carry a two-year warranty. A ceramic coat makes upkeep easier and helps the wrap last. If you bring in outside or customer-supplied vinyl we can’t warranty the material, but we do warranty our installation.
For full care and warranty details, see our Care & Warranty page.
How do I take care of it?
Keep it washed and waxed (a ceramic wax is ideal) and garage it when you can. That’s most of the battle. Brushless/touchless carwashes and hand washing are recommended.
Removal & paint safety
Will a wrap damage my paint? Can it be removed?
Removal generally isn’t a problem unless a wrap has been left on far too long. It’s priced by the hour. On older vehicles we’ll want to evaluate the paint first, since sun-baked or already-failing paint can react differently. Bring it by and we’ll test for removal before we commit to a number.
My current wrap is cracking. Repair or replace?
If it’s only a couple of panels, those usually just get rewrapped. If the whole thing is failing and you were going to repaint anyway, sometimes an auto-body shop is the quicker, cheaper route. We’ll tell you which way makes sense for you.
Getting started
What’s the first step?
For a color change: come in, look through the swatch books, pick your vinyl, and we’ll schedule the install. For commercial: a quick phone chat about your ideas and budget, then a design deposit to get rolling.
What’s the best way to reach you?
Email is the fastest. We’re often mid-install, so email gets you a quicker answer than a call, and we can always set up a time to talk. Weekend appointments are available for people who can’t get in during the week. All work is done in-house.
For our trade partners
Do you do install-only or print-and-install for the trade?
Yes. Install-only is priced by square footage at trade rates, and we also do print-and-install. We’ve got heated indoor space, so we’re set up for year-round work.
What turnaround should trade jobs plan for?
Most decal and lettering installs run about a day, but plan on two. Vehicles sit inside overnight so the graphics cure properly before they roll.
Still have a question?
